Family Bank Eldoret Half Marathon 10th Edition

posted on September 26, 2016

On 16th September, Family Bank launched the 10th edition of our annual Family Bank Eldoret Half Marathon at Athletics Kenya headquarters in Riadha House. This year’s marathon being the Bank’s 10th anniversary is one with a difference with introduction of a CSR cause with proceeds going to the Family Group Foundation to cater for education.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, David Thuku made a cheque presentation of Ksh 10 Million to the Athletics Kenya President, Gen (Rtd) Jack Tuwei who commended the bank for its continued support to athletics development in the country.  The Bank had another first, as we are the first to be awarded with a permit according to the new Athletics Kenya (AK) Rules and Regulations Section 2: 2.9. The launch was graced by Rio Gold medalists Eliud Kipchoge and Jemima Sumgong, AK officials and Family Bank staff.

In this year’s edition of the marathon to be held on Sunday 9th October 2016, the Bank has doubled the prize money of the top winners poised to take home half a million shillings each in both the men and women’s half marathon category.

More than 1,000 participants are targeted from across the country and they can choose to participate either as an individual or as a team. Runners will be eligible for awards in the races for which they have registered for.

Proceeds from this year’s marathon will support an educational cause in Eldoret through the Family Group Foundation. The Family Group Foundation seeks to transform families positively by catalysing transformative change in the areas of education.  In order to support this, the Bank has introduced a modest registration fee of Ksh 200 payable via our MPESA pay bill number 222325, Account number 082000012918.

Family Bank is keen on nurturing young upcoming athletes. This year, the Rio marathon gold medalists – Eliud Kipchoge, who participated in last year’s marathon and Jemima Sumgong will grace the Family Bank Marathon.
